Hungry for Lobster? New Waterfront Eatery on the State Pier Offers Steamed Lobster Dinners, Fresh Lobster Rolls, Lobsterman's Bisque and More Made from Lobsters Landed Right in Newport at Pier Nine PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management, in partnership with the Fishermen of Newport, will host a grand opening event for the new Newport Lobster Shack Kitchen at 3 p.m. Friday, August 29. The Lobster Shack Kitchen is an outgrowth of the popular Newport Lobster Shack Cooperative on State Pier Nine, where the Fishermen in Newport have been selling their catch – lobsters, crabs and conch – directly to the public since 2010. Now, with the new kitchen facility, the public has an opportunity to purchase a variety of freshly cooked items made directly from lobsters landed at Pier Nine. All of the menu items including fresh steamed lobster, lobster rolls, lobster bites, crab boils, lobster cakes and hand-picked local lobster meat come straight from the lobsters plucked by fishermen in local waters and landed at the state pier on Long Wharf. Visitors to Newport can now enjoy an affordable, local seafood meal 'picnic-style' under the shade pavilion on Newport's working waterfront. The venue is family-friendly and the seafood is the freshest that can be had. In addition to DEM Director Janet Coit, speakers will include Senator Jack Reed; Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed; House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello; Representative Peter Martin; Representative Deborah Ruggiero; Newport Mayor Henry Winthrop; and David Spencer, president of the Newport Fishermen's Association. The Newport Lobster Shack Kitchen is open daily from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will be offering several grand opening specials throughout Labor Day weekend.
