As part of a statewide bridge rehabilitation project, the Middle Road Bridge that carries Middle Road over Route 4 in East Greenwich is scheduled to close for approximately two months beginning Monday, June 23, 2014. The bridge was built in 1969 and will undergo deck, joint and sidewalk repairs. The work is being completed through a $2.9 million contract with Cardi Corporation that covers structures in nine communities.
WHEN: The closure is anticipated to last for approximately two months, with the bridge scheduled to reopen to traffic by the end of the summer. Operations will continue under the bridge through the fall, which will require temporary, overnight lane closures on Route 4.
DETOURS: Detour routes will be established using South County Trail, Division Street and Howland Road. More information about the lane closures on Route 4 will be provided as it becomes available. Signs will be posted and a detour map is available online at www.dot.ri.gov/detourmaps.
