As part of the Magnolia Street Bridge Project, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will temporarily close the Plainfield Street on-ramp to Route 6 East beginning on Monday, June 2, at 7 p.m. This closure is needed in order to safely demolish the existing bridge; this work is part of a larger project to realign Route 6 and improve safety and traffic flow in the area.
The on-ramp is scheduled to be closed for 45 days. Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour route, using Plainfield Street and Hartford Avenue to access Route 6 East.
While the on-ramp is closed, a short detour also will be established for Plainfield Street southbound. Traffic coming from Olneyville will use Hartford Avenue and Service Road to return to Plainfield Street. Access to all businesses will be maintained.
