RIEMA WEATHER ADVISORY

Date: February 14, 2014 Re: Winter Storm Warning

The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency is alerting all Rhode Islanders that the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire state from 10am Saturday, February 15, until 5am Sunday, February 16.

TIMING: Snow beginning Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning. Accumulation 6 to 10 inches. Heavy snow fall of 1-2 inches per hour between 6pm Saturday through 12am Sunday. Precipitation may start out as rain in the southern coast of Rhode Island.

WINDS: Interior gusts from 25 to 35 mph. Strongest winds occur after midnight Saturday night. Sustained winds shifting from northeast to northwest overnight. Possibility of power outages and downed tree branches.

COASTAL FLOODING: Splash-over and minor coastal flooding may affect southern coastal areas of Rhode Island. Anticipate 10 to 15 feet seas offshore.

MARINE IMPACT: Wind gust 35 – 55 knots. Seas from 15 to 20 feet across the eastern outer waters. Gale force winds may linger into Sunday afternoon.

TEMPERATURE: Temperature in the upper 20's. Cold conditions follow into Sunday night with wind chills in the teens to single digits.

TRAVEL: Expect hazardous travel conditions, gusty winds and reduced visibility up to a mile or less.
