Former Westerly Town Manager Named to Governor's Staff
Providence, RI – Governor Lincoln D. Chafee announced today that Steven T. Hartford, formerly the Town Manager of Westerly, will join the Office of the Governor as Special Advisor to Policy and Legislative Affairs. The post was previously held by Kenny Alston, who will become the Director of Operations.
"Kenny and I have worked closely together for several years starting with his service on my campaign for Governor. I have the utmost confidence in him as he takes on added duties," Governor Chafee said. "I welcome Steve to my staff. Steve is a proven leader who has served as the chief executive officer of a municipality and as an attorney."
Steven T. Hartford, a graduate of Fairfield University, received his J.D., cum laude, from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Prior to taking over the duties of Westerly's Town Manager from 2009-2013, he was the town solicitor, 1996-98, 2000-02 and 2004-09. He served as Board Chairman of the federal Wyatt Detention Facility between 2011 and 2013. He has volunteered his time to community service as a member of various boards including the Westerly Education Endowment Fund, Greater Westerly/Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce, Westerly Adult Day Care Center and Westerly Hospital Parent Company.
