Governor Chafee Announces Another Step in the Right Direction for Regulatory Reform

Period Two Report marks the halfway point

As part of his accelerated Regulatory Reform Initiative, Governor Lincoln D. Chafee today announced the release of the Period Two Regulatory Look Back Report, issued by the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) Office of Regulatory Reform (ORR).

"The second report is another step in the right direction for regulatory reform," Governor Chafee said. "A vibrant and growing small business sector is critical to creating jobs in Rhode Island. I applaud the initial efforts of state agencies to be more responsive to small businesses. Moreover, I continue to urge all agencies to develop regulatory solutions that effectively achieve state goals without imposing unnecessary burdens on small employers."

The Period Two Report marks the halfway point in the initiative to ensure a clear, predictable, and reliable regulatory environment for Rhode Island small businesses. It offers updates on ORR's recommendations from the Period One Report, as well as new recommendations for statutory changes that would support ongoing reform efforts.

"We are beginning to see a much clearer picture of the regulatory environment in Rhode Island, in large part due to input from a wide range of stakeholders. This report demonstrates how and why regulatory processes must change to balance the need to protect taxpayer interests with the need to grow our economy," said Leslie Taito, Director of Regulatory Reform. "We have a long way to go, but the improvements under way are what the small business community has been seeking."
