The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will convene plow operators tomorrow to begin preparations for the upcoming winter season. Participants will discuss the current challenges facing the state and the contracting community as well as learn about the latest technology being applied in the field.
WHEN: Friday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to noon.
WHERE: RIDOT Highway and Bridge Maintenance Headquarters, 360 Lincoln Ave., Warwick.
Last year, RIDOT vehicles were equipped with GPS devices and more precise salt metering systems to better control the application of this material - the most costly component of winter storm operations. Data from last winter will be presented in an effort to create a storm management plan that keeps the road clear at the lowest price to the taxpayer. Each year, RIDOT partners with hundreds of independent plow operators to supplement the state's fleet during inclement weather.
