The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced that the Hamlet Avenue Bridge, which carries Route 122 (Hamlet Avenue) over the Blackstone River in Woonsocket, is undergoing repairs due to a deteriorated bridge joint. As a result, the two left-turn only lanes at the intersection of Hamlet Avenue and Cumberland Street have been shortened. Expect delays. Trucks are advised to take Route 99 to bypass the bridge.
WHEN:
Effective Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
WHERE:
Between Davison Avenue/Florence Drive to the west and Cumberland Street/Cumberland Hill Road to the east.
Construction to replace the bridge joints is scheduled to begin in Summer 2014. However, lane restrictions may be lifted prior to this point. The bridge was built in 1959 and carries approximately 20,000 vehicles per day.
