The Kent County Grand Jury reported out an indictment charging Nasstassja Hampton and Prince Benjamin with multiple charges related to an assault and robbery in Warwick. Hampton was indicted on one count of first degree robbery, two counts of conspiracy, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling – domestic, and one count of reckless driving. Benjamin was indicted on one count of first degree robbery, two counts of conspiracy, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling and one count of obstructing a police officer.
It is alleged that on or about June 8, 2013, Hampton and Benjamin assaulted a woman with a dumbbell and robbed her. The victim pretended she was dead and then contacted the police when Hampton and Benjamin left the house. Warwick Police pulled over the vehicle a short distance away from the house. After a brief interaction with a Warwick police officer, the defendants sped away and led police on a high speed chase down Route 95. The chase ended when Hampton and Benjamin drove off the highway on Rte 95 in Richmond.
The alleged events took place in Warwick. The Warwick Police conducted the investigation and the Rhode Island State Police assisted with the motor vehicle pursuit of the defendants. Hampton and Benjamin, who have been held at the ACI since the incident, are scheduled to be arraigned in Kent County Superior Court on September 13, 2013.
