The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced the establishment of a single-lane alternating traffic pattern on the Slatersville Stone Arch Bridge, which carries Route 5 (Providence Pike) over the Branch River in North Smithfield. A recent bridge inspection found deterioration that requires this change to ensure the safe use of the bridge while RIDOT repairs it.
WHAT: RIDOT will implement a single-lane alternating traffic pattern on Route 5 (Providence Pike) in North Smithfield. Motorists will encounter stop signs at each end of the bridge, and need to yield and wait for oncoming traffic to clear before crossing.
WHEN: Today, Monday, May 20, 2013. Lane restriction expected to be in place by 6 p.m.
WHERE: Route 5 (Providence Pike) in the village of Slatersville in North Smithfield.
