The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close Exit 21 (Atwells Avenue) off of I-95 South overnight tonight from midnight to 5:00 a.m. The ramp will also be closed the following night overnight from midnight through Friday at 5:00 a.m. Motorists should follow the signed detour using Exit 22 A (Downtown) off of I-95 South.
WHAT: RIDOT will close Exit 21 (Atwells Avenue) off of I-95 South to widen the ramp at its intersection with Atwells Avenue, as advance work for the Providence Viaduct Replacement Project gets underway. The Providence Viaduct is a 1,290-foot multi-span bridge that carries I-95 through the heart of Providence. The bridge carries the highest volume of daily traffic of any segment of the Interstate in Rhode Island.
WHEN: Thursday, May 9, 2013: 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013: 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
WHERE: Exit 21 (Atwells Avenue) off of I-95 South.
DETOUR: Motorists should follow the signed detour using Exit 22 A (Downtown) off of I-95 South.
