Governor Lincoln D. Chafee and Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Director Michael P. Lewis will be joined by Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Congressman Jim Langevin, and Congressman David Cicilline on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. to unveil site design improvements to Amtrak's Providence Station. The Station, located at 100 Gaspee Street in Providence, welcomes over one million Amtrak and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) commuter rail passengers each year.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and Drew Galloway, Chief, NEC Planning and Performance, Amtrak are also anticipated to attend the event. Other project stakeholders include the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, the Providence Foundation, the Capital Center Commission, Capital Properties, Metro Park, Providence Place Mall and other adjacent businesses.
The short-term structural and aesthetic improvements are scheduled to be advertised for construction before the end of the year.
