The Office of Attorney General today announced that the Rhode Island Student Loan Authority (RISLA) entered into a settlement agreement in which RISLA acknowledged it violated the Open Meetings Act and agreed to pay the State of Rhode Island a $1,000 civil fine.
Under the terms of the settlement agreement, RISLA acknowledged that it posted notice of its June 26, 2012 meeting less than 48 hours before the meeting as required under OMA. As a result of convening the meeting with less than 48 hours notice, RISLA agreed to release the minutes of an executive session held during the June 26, 2012 meeting, as well as pay a $1,000 civil fine.
The lawsuit is the result of a complaint filed with the Office of Attorney General on June 28, 2012 by Peter Kerwin.
