Miguel Davis Found Guilty in the Murder of Romantic Rival Dominique Gay

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin today announced that a Providence County Superior Court jury found Miguel Davis (DOB: 01/24/89), with a last known address of 224 River Avenue, Providence, guilty of murder, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence resulting in death, use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime resulting in death, and carrying a pistol, .9 mm pistol, without a license. The jury deliberated two days after a 12-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause.

During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that on March 20, 2009 Davis shot and killed Dominique Gay in broad daylight near the intersection of Porter and Broad Streets. The State proved that Davis and Gay who grew up with one another were romantically linked to the same woman which led to a rivalry among the two men that resulted in the murder of Gay.

Police and prosecutors linked the firearm to a stolen gun from Johnston that belonged to the grandfather of a female Davis was romantically involved with. The legal owner of the .9 mm reported the weapon stolen.

Providence Sergeant Michael Fallon and Detective Daniel O'Connell led the investigation for the Providence Police. Assistant Attorney General Randall White and Special Assistant Attorney General John Moreira prosecuted the case on behalf of the State.

Davis has been held without bail since the time of his arrest, August 29, 2012.
