The RI Dept. of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH) is collaborating with the RI Dept. of Labor and Training (DLT) to hold a job fair for more than 50 health care job openings on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 7 and 8 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Providence netWORKri One-Stop Career Center, One Reservoir Ave.
Employment opportunities include Registered Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Community Living Aides. Positions are available through the Eleanor Slater Hospital Division in Cranston and Burrillville, and through the RI Community Living and Supports (RICLAS) state group home system. Both the CNA and Community Living Aide positions are considered seasonal, but may lead to permanent employment.
All positions require a valid RI driver's license. Candidates for CNA and nursing positions should bring copies of their appropriate certifications and/or licensing to the event. Attendees are also advised to bring copies of their résumés.
Governor Lincoln D. Chafee stated, "This collaborative effort between BHDDH and DLT will help us provide both quality staffing to these important facilities and good jobs to Rhode Islanders."
The sizable number of job openings is due to a new, continuous recruitment process at BHDDH, according to Department Director Craig Stenning. "This job fair underscores our efforts to maximize staffing capabilities in our 24-hour operations at the hospital and our group homes," he said.
"Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with dedicated and expert medical professionals," Stenning said. He added that while the positions can be challenging, they are also very rewarding, "because you are improving the quality of lives of patients with serious medical and psychiatric conditions."
The Business Workforce Center at the RI Department of Labor and Training worked directly with BHDDH staff and the Department of Administration to plan and staff the job fair opportunity. Director of the Department of Labor and Training Charles J. Fogarty said, "Our Business Workforce Center is geared to helping all employers with their recruiting needs, so it made good sense to have them help the state with its hiring."
For more information on the job fair, please contact Providence netWORKri at (401) 462-8900 or visit www.employri.org and enter job number 688770. Individual job descriptions are listed on both the State Job Board at http://www.dlt.ri.gov/JobsRI/statejobs.htm and in EmployRI.org.
BHDDH is committed to assuring access to quality services and supports for Rhode Islanders with developmental disabilities, mental health and substance abuse issues, as well as those with chronic, long-term medical and psychiatric conditions. In addition to planning for the development of new services and prevention activities, the department's mission includes address the stigma attached to these disabilities.
