Flag Was Ripped Away, Equipment Damaged in High Winds
Providence, RI - A Department of Administration (DOA) facilities team is working to repair the equipment needed to fly the American Flag atop the Rhode Island State House after it was damaged by high winds Thursday.
The halyard (rope) used to raise and lower the flag was torn amid high winds, causing the flag to come loose. The flag was later recovered.
Because of the location of the flag pole, a mobile crane was needed to access and repair the damage to the flag apparatus. The crane is on-site now and repairs are under way. The American Flag is expected be raised above the State House before sunset this evening.
