The RI Department of Labor and Training announced today that Unemployment Insurance customers may opt to download their 1099-G tax forms immediately from the Department of Labor and Training web site rather than wait to receive them in the mail. Because Unemployment Insurance benefits are taxable, anyone who received benefits between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012 must declare these benefits on their 2012 tax return.
Those who choose to download and print their 1099s now may do so by visiting the department's home page at www.dlt.ri.gov and clicking on the 1099 feature.
The department will mail the form to any customer who has not downloaded it prior to January 31, 2013. It is important to note that those who choose to download the forms themselves will not be mailed copies of their forms. Therefore, customers who download after January 24 may also receive a hard copy in the mail.
For the 2012 calendar year, the department plans to issue approximately 68,000 1099 tax forms to Rhode Island Unemployment Insurance claimants.
Claimants with changes to their mailing address can easily update their address information online by visiting www.dlt.ri.gov/ui and clicking the "1099/Change Address" button.
