State Arts Council Announces New Exhibit At T.F. Green Gallery Space

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) announced today that a new art exhibition, entitled ON AND THROUGH AND IN BETWEEN, will be held from January 30 through April 30th, 2013. in GREEN SPACE, a gallery at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick that presents the work of contemporary Rhode Island artists.

It features 2 and 3-dimensional works by Deborah Baronas and Graham Heffernan. Baronas' fabric-based pieces and Heffernan's paintings deftly employ translucent surfaces that are layered to evoke a sense of distant memory. The works capture the essence of fleeting events – from dreams and from life – and offer viewers the opportunity to access them.

Deborah Baronas explores the progress of existence, depicting this concept in images of work, particularly laborers in farm and mill settings. Her pieces often employ sheer fabric panels arranged in multiple layers that allow light and air to activate them. Patterns and rhythms of repetitive work take on the softness of memory and are celebrated as progress.

Graham Heffernan makes paintings that evoke spaces he encounters in a recurring dream. He captures elements of these disappearing environments with carefully considered textures and layers of translucent paint. The resulting works are dreamlike and atmospheric in themselves.

The artists were selected for exhibition by an accomplished panel: Sarah Ganz Blythe, RISD Museum of Art; Amy Horschak, The Museum of Modern Art; Tony Johnson, Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, RISD and Will Reeves, Artist.

GREEN SPACE, a partnership between the Rhode Island Council on the Arts and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, promotes outstanding work by artists living and working in Rhode Island. The gallery will present art to an ever-changing audience of local, national and international travelers. GREEN SPACE is located in the airport terminal where the skywalk meets the main building. Art is exhibited on both levels of the terminal.
