The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will be working on the East Bay Bike Path on two nights this week to perform crack sealing on the entire bikeway from East Providence to Bristol.
This operation will help extend the life of the pavement by sealing cracks and preventing water from reaching the base of the path. If left unchecked, this water infiltration would cause damage to the path's base and ultimately lead to deterioration and a rougher riding surface.
To avoid closing the bike path, this work will be performed overnight each night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30, 2011. The entire path will be open for use on Thursday, September 1. During the rolling operation, path users may encounter brief closures.
Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT's website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
