Governor Lincoln Chafee Announces that Senior Advisor Stephen R. Hourahan Will Return to Family Service of Rhode Island

Providence, RI – Governor Lincoln Chafee today announced that longtime aide Stephen R. Hourahan, who most recently served as Governor-elect Chafee's Transition Director and as Senior Advisor to the Governor, will return to Family Service of Rhode Island as Chief Advancement Officer. Hourahan left Family Service in 2009 to join the successful Chafee for Governor campaign. He also served as Communications Director for then-Senator Lincoln Chafee and in a variety of positions for the late Senator John Chafee.

"Stephen has been a trusted advisor and friend to the Chafee family for many years," Governor Chafee said. "He was a valued member of my father's U.S. Senate and campaign staffs, and for the past 14 years Stephen has played key roles for me during my time as U.S. Senator and Governor, as well as my campaigns for both of those offices. Although he has decided to return to Family Service of Rhode Island, an organization about which he is extremely passionate, Stephen will remain a trusted friend and advisor in an informal capacity. Stephanie joins me in wishing him success and happiness as he enters this new chapter."

"It has been an honor to work for the Governor and Senator John Chafee over the past three decades," Hourahan said. "I was proud to assist the Governor's successful campaign, his transition to office, and his first two years in the State House. This has been a terrific experience and I have learned a great deal and worked with some wonderful people."

"We are thrilled that Stephen is coming back to Family Service of Rhode Island," said CEO Margaret Holland McDuff. "Stephen served on our Board of Directors and then as a member of my senior management team before joining the Chafee Administration. Stephen's skill as an innovator, communicator, and detail-oriented planner will serve FSRI well as we continue our strategic focus on diversification and growth."

As a member of the CEO's executive team, the Chief Advancement Officer will formulate and lead achievement of institutional goals, objectives, strategy, and partnerships. Additionally, Hourahan will be responsible for all aspects of marketing and branding, and will manage all public- and private-sector fundraising.

With an annual budget of over $50 million, Family Service of Rhode Island is one of the largest non-profit organizations in Rhode Island. As a diversified social service organization built on alliances and partnerships, they serve individuals and families across Rhode Island.
