PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Since the launch of online business tax filing in May 2003, the Rhode Island Division of Taxation has processed more than $1 billion in tax payments through the state's official Web site at www.RI.gov. The Rhode Island Business Tax service provides businesses with easy access to an ever-expanding suite of electronic tax filing options. Last year, more than $573 million was processed through the online tax service, and nearly $142 million was filed just in the first quarter of 2006.
"Electronic filing of tax payments has proven to be an easy and cost-efficient solution for Rhode Island business tax payers," said John Nugent, Assistant Tax Administrator. "Online tax payments and filings have been a priority for the Division of Taxation, and we are pleased to be able to offer such a comprehensive suite of over 50 different tax types payable via the Internet and telephone."
The online filing service has more than 8,000 registered users and has processed upwards of 175,000 tax payments since May 2003. Rhode Island offers online filing and electronic payments for sales and use tax, consumer use tax, alcohol beverage import service fees, and more than 50 other tax types. Payments can be warehoused or remitted the day of the filing. All funds are processed through the RI.gov payment server, which transfers deposits from filer accounts directly to the Rhode Island General Fund.
The Division of Taxation Business Tax service was created in partnership with RI.gov, which also built and maintains the state's Web portal at www.RI.gov.
