The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has announced that Hope Street (Route 114) in the Town of Bristol will return to two-way traffic tomorrow, Friday, September 21, 2012.
This milestone marks the completion of work accomplished on Hope Street through a $3 million contract with LAL Construction. RIDOT worked closely with the Town throughout the entire project to temporarily rearrange the downtown traffic pattern for the final phase of the project, making Hope Street and Thames Street each one-way. This shift saved nearly nine months of work.
RIDOT replaced curbing and sidewalks, repaired drainage lines and catch basins, removed and replanted street trees, installed decorative lighting, and resurfaced the roadway along a 0.6-mile segment of Hope Street from Constitution Street to Thames Street. Additional paving needs to be done before Thames Street can return to two-way traffic. That work is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
To celebrate the completion of work on Hope Street, RIDOT and the Town of Bristol will host a dedication event at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012. The event will take place on the sidewalk adjacent to the Bristol Visitor Center's Burnside Building, near the corner of Hope Street and Court Street.
