The Providence County Grand Jury today reported out an indictment charging Anthony Tavares with seven counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of simple assault, and two counts of assault on a health care provider.
It is alleged that on or about June 7, 2012, Anthony Tavares, an inmate at the Eleanor Slater Hospital, assaulted multiple patients and employees with a pencil, as well as with his hands and feet. It is further alleged that Tavares assaulted two health care providers.
The alleged incidents took place at the Eleanor Slater Hospital. The Rhode Island State Police conducted the investigation. Tavares is currently at the ACI and is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on August 15, 2012.
