Providence, RI - Governor Lincoln D. Chafee has traveled to Kuwait and Afghanistan this week as part of a Governors' Delegation sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. The primary purpose of the trip, which began with a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta at the Pentagon, is for the Governor to visit with troops deployed in Kuwait and Afghanistan, both in the field and in medical facilities. Governors Dennis Daugaard of South Dakota and Rick Snyder of Michigan also took part in the trip.
"Rhode Island has one of the highest deployment rates of any state in the nation," Governor Chafee said. "This visit gives me a chance to review operations on the ground first-hand and to spend time with and offer my support to troops currently serving overseas. I traveled to Afghanistan as a U.S. Senator in 2003, and I am grateful for the opportunity to return and visit with our troops."
