The RI Department of Labor and Training announced today that Unemployment Insurance customers may choose to download and print their 1099-G tax forms immediately from the department's web site at www.dlt.ri.gov rather than wait to receive them in the mail. Because Unemployment Insurance benefits are taxable, anyone who received benefits between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011 must declare these benefits on their 2011 tax return.
The department will mail 1099 forms to all customers who have not downloaded them prior to January 24, 2012. Therefore, customers who download after January 24 may also receive a hard copy in the mail. For the 2011 calendar year, the department plans to issue approximately 75,000 1099 tax forms to Rhode Island Unemployment Insurance claimants.
The department also announced today that claimants with changes to their mailing address can easily update their address information online at: https://uiclaims.state.ri.us/CustAddChg/index.aspx. Individuals no longer need to contact the department to change their address.
