The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced today that motorists should expect delays along I-95 North in East Greenwich and West Greenwich tomorrow, Tuesday, November 1, for resurfacing operations.
The right shoulder and right lane on I-95 North will be closed from just south of Exit 6 (Route 3) to Exit 7 (New London Turnpike) beginning at 9 a.m. The on- and off-ramps for Exit 6 and Exit 6A also will be closed, one at a time, for brief periods. For detour maps associated with the exit closures, please see http://www.dot.ri.gov/travelri/detourmaps.asp.
The work is part of a $7.5 million contract with J.H. Lynch to resurface 6.6 miles of I-95 in southern Rhode Island. This is the third contract for resurfacing on I-95 in southern Rhode Island in the past two years.
Paving operations are typically done at night to minimize impacts to traffic. However, cold temperatures and wet weather have prevented RIDOT from completing this work. The milled areas of I-95 need to be resurfaced ahead of the winter to assure safe driving conditions.
Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT's website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
