The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is urging motorists to allow additional time in both their morning and afternoon commutes on Monday, October 3, 2011 in the Providence metropolitan area because of an event at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
The one-day Get Motivated Business Seminar scheduled to take place on Monday is expected to cause significant delays on the highways and city streets in Providence, as the start and end times of this event coincide with the busiest travel times of the day in the Providence area. Parking in garages, surface lots and on city streets may be limited as well.
Commuters and event attendees may wish to use public transportation options on Monday. These include commuter rail service from the InterLink at T.F. Green State Airport, accessible at Exit 13 on I-95 in Warwick. Inbound trains from Warwick to Providence leave at 6:13 a.m., 6:52 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. and outbound trains from Providence to Warwick are scheduled at 6:10 p.m., 6:48 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
RIPTA commuter bus service is also available at Park n' Ride parking lots throughout Rhode Island. Links to schedule information for both commuter rail trains and RIPTA buses will be posted on RIDOT's website at www.dot.ri.gov.
Motorists are advised to review travel information provided by RIDOT's Transportation Management Center. These include online resources such traffic cameras and congestion mapping information at www.tmc.dot.ri.gov and in-the-field services including electronic message boards, 511, and the Highway Advisory Radio station at 16:30 AM. Additionally, electronic message boards will feature estimated travel time information that RIDOT has expanded to cover the entire I-95 corridor in Rhode Island.
Additional information may be available on RIDOT's social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
