Governor Lincoln D. Chafee will join Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) officials and other state and local dignitaries on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 for a tour of the Union Avenue Bridge Replacement Project. The event will be held at 1 p.m. on the bridge deck in Providence.
The original Union Avenue Bridge was built in 1958 and carried Union Avenue over Route 10 in Providence. The bridge was closed in June 2010 and is undergoing a replacement through an $8.1 million contract with Aetna Bridge of Pawtucket.
Directions and Parking: From Route 10 South, take Union Avenue/Huntington Avenue Exit. Please park in the grassy area along the right side of the ramp. Flaggers will lead you to the event site. From Route 10 North, take Union Avenue Exit and park on one of the side streets. Flaggers will lead you to the event site.
As this is an active construction zone, hardhats will be provided. In addition, flat, closed toed shoes are recommended.
