Governor Lincoln D. Chafee announced today that he will formally swear in Steven G. O’Donnell as the twelfth Superintendent in Rhode Island State Police history at a State House ceremony on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.
The Governor announced O’Donnell as his choice to serve as State Police Superintendent and Public Safety Commissioner last month. Lieutenant Colonel Raymond S. White has been serving as Acting Superintendent and will continue in that position until O’Donnell takes over in May.
The formal swearing-in ceremony will take place on the South Portico of the State House.
O’Donnell has over 25 years of law enforcement experience and most recently served as U.S. Marshal for the District of Rhode Island. Prior to his U.S. Marshal appointment by President Obama, O’Donnell served 22 years with the Rhode Island State Police, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and Deputy Superintendent.
