The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will close the Morgan Avenue Bridge in Johnston over three days next week. The bridge will be closed daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, through Friday, April 8.
During the closure, crews will gather information on the town-owned bridge, which was reduced to one lane following the flooding in March and April of 2010. The results of this analysis will aid in the final design for the bridge repairs. Because of the narrow width of the road, a full closure is necessary to complete the work.
“We apologize for any inconveniences this closure may cause, but detouring traffic for this short period will help us prepare to reopen the bridge as quickly as possible,” RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis said.
RIDOT has established detour routes for this closure. Access to local businesses will be maintained. The detours are as follows:
Morgan Avenue Westbound:
· Turn right on Atwood Avenue (Route 5)
· Turn right on Central Avenue
· Turn right on Borden Avenue
· Turn right on Morgan Avenue
Morgan Avenue Eastbound:
· Turn left on Borden Avenue
· Turn left on Central Avenue
· Turn left on Atwood Avenue (Route 5)
· Turn left on Morgan Avenue
