Former Providence Police Detective Joseph Colanduono Sentenced to 20 Years for Involvement in Operation Deception

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin today announced that Rhode Island Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause sentenced former Providence Police Detective Joseph Colanduono, to 20 years, eight years to serve with 12 years suspended with probation, for his involvement in Operation Deception.

Colanduono pled guilty on December 9, 2010 to two counts of conspiracy to deliver cocaine, one count of larceny over $500 and one count of harboring a criminal. In consideration of his plea, the State dismissed two counts of conspiracy to deliver cocaine, one count of possession of cocaine, one count of misprision of a felony and one count of conspiracy to harbor a criminal.

Colanduono was sentenced to 20 years, eight to serve with 12 years suspended with probation, for the two counts of conspiracy to deliver cocaine, eight years for larceny over $500, and five years for harboring a fugitive, all to run concurrent.

“When a police officer breaks the law, he breaks the trust of the community making it more difficult for all law enforcement to do their job,” said Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin.
