Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin Announces John Price Pleads to Three Counts First Degree Child Molestation, Six Counts Second Degree Child Abuse

Today in Superior Court before Justice Darigan, John Price, 20, pled Nolo Contender to three counts of first degree child molestation and six counts of second degree child abuse.

On the three counts of first degree molestation, Price received a sentence of 60 years to the ACI, with 50 years to serve, and 10 years suspended and 10 years probation upon release. On the six counts of second degree child abuse, he received 10 years to serve, to run concurrently. Conditions of his sentence include a no contact order with the victim, sex offender registration and notification (pursuant to RIGL sec. 11-37.1 et seq.), electronic monitoring and compliance with sex offender treatment pursuant to the Jessica Lunsford Child Predator Act of 2006 (RIGL sec. 11-37-8.2.1), lifetime community supervision pursuant to RIGL sec. 13-8-30 and to provide a DNA sample pursuant to 12-1.5-7 and 12-1.5-8.

Price, formerly of Woonsocket, was arrested for striking, beating, biting and sexually molesting his girlfriend’s two-year old child. Price, who was 17 years of age at the time of the offense, June 29, 2008, was waived out of Family Court on July 14, 2008 and subsequently arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on July 22, 2009. Price has been held at the ACI since the time of his arrest.

The abuse and molestation incident was investigated by the Woonsocket Police Department, led by Detective Alan LeClaire. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Susan Urso, with assistance from Special Assistant Attorney General Carole McLaughlin, on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
