Governor Donald L. Carcieri, Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Congressman Jim Langevin and Pawtucket Mayor James Doyle will join RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis and other Federal, State and local officials to break ground on the Pawtucket River Bridge Replacement Project. The event will be held on Thursday, November 4 at 2 p.m. at the closed on ramp to I-95 North from George Street in Pawtucket.
The Pawtucket River Bridge, built in 1958, carries I-95 over Taft Street and the Pawtucket River. Carrying approximately 162,000 vehicles per day, the bridge has been posted at 18 tons for the past two years to help preserve its service life until its replacement. RIDOT is currently targeting Spring 2012 for the posting to be lifted and Summer 2013 for the project completion.
