Joined by Corporate and Community Sponsors, Roberts Announces 8th Year of Initiative to Support Rhode Island Service Men and Women Stationed Overseas
Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts will launch Operation Holiday Cheer 2010 on Tuesday, October 19th at 10:00 am, accompanied by Major General Robert T. Bray, at the National Guard Command Readiness Center, Schofield Armory at 705 New London Avenue in Cranston. The initiative relies on corporate and community sponsors, as well as the general public, for donations. Volunteers, organized by the state family support program of the RI National Guard, assemble the care packages to send to National Guard troops stationed overseas during the holiday months.
Lt. Governor Roberts and Major General Robert T. Bray will appeal to the public for support in the month-long drive for care package donations and funds to pay for postage. Community sponsors including the American Red Cross Rhode Island Chapter and the United States Postal Service, along with major corporate sponsors, will comment on their involvement and commitment to the initiative.
