The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced that it will be closing one of the two lanes on the ramp from I-195 West to I-95 South this weekend for Iway-related construction. The right lane will be closed from 5 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, April 24 through 5 a.m., Monday, April 26.
The lane closure is needed due to the placement of new concrete where this ramp meets a future exit from I-195 West to Eddy Street and the R.I. hospitals area. Even after work crews have completed concrete placement, traffic will be restricted with only the left lane open. This will minimize vibration on the structure while the new concrete is curing.
Although traffic volumes on the weekend are lower than on weekdays, RIDOT expects this lane closure to cause traffic congestion. Motorists may wish to use I-95 North to Route 10 South as an alternate route to I-95 South.
Also as part of this operation, RIDOT will close the right lane on I-95 South in the area of Exit 19 (Eddy Street), for approximately two hours beginning at 5 a.m. on Saturday.
Construction on this new exit to Eddy Street will continue this spring and summer. RIDOT expects to open it to traffic this fall.
Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT’s Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT’s website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
