The Rhode Island Department of Transportation RIDOT today is closing a section of Industrial Drive in Providence to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Local access for businesses on the Corliss Street side of Industrial Drive will be maintained. Those who normally use this road to drive to and from the North Main Street area to the Providence Post Office or other businesses on Corliss Street or West River Street will need to follow a detour using either Branch Avenue or Charles Street.
The road will be closed so the bridge over the Moshassuck River can be rehabilitated in the shortest timeframe possible. The Department anticipates reopening the bridge by late Fall 2010, with final completion scheduled for Spring 2011. The $1.9 million project is funded entirely by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ARRA.
Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT's website and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
