PROVIDENCE, RI -- Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis will outline the in’s and out’s of running for office at Operation Clean Government's Candidate School on March 6. The deadline for registering for the day-long introduction to running for office is Sat., Feb. 28.
OCG organizers say prospective candidates and campaign volunteers will spend the day with some of the state's best politicians and election experts.
Mollis will kick off the workshops by outlining crucial dates in the 2010 election calendar including voter registration, party disaffiliation and filing deadlines. He will be followed by a session on ethics by Jason Gramitt, education coordinator and staff attorney for the Rhode Island Ethics Commission.
From there, the workshops will cover how to make the decision to run, what candidates should have in order to run, how to select a campaign manager, conducting public opinion polls, fund-raising, effective campaign spending, use of the Internet, publicity and advertising.
Operation Clean Government’s Candidate School is a non-partisan educational seminar held every election year in Rhode Island since 2002. Designed to broaden citizen involvement in state and local government, it empowers citizens with the knowledge they need to get involved and succeed in the political process.
The school is scheduled for Sat., March 6, from 7:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Quonset “O” Club in North Kingstown. For more information or to register, visit www.ocgri.org.
