General Background: While periodic testing of fire alarms systems has been an integral component of the States fire safety codes for many years, the inception of a standardized inspection form first was codified  by the adoption of the 2003 edition of NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code as Section 7 of the State Fire Safety Code.  This requirement was subsequently amended in 2008 where certification of required periodic testing be on the Uniform Testing Report [UTR] approved by the State Fire Marshal and adopted by the Fire Safety Code Board of Appeal and Review.  In 2012, a reorganization of the entire Fire Safety Code resulted in the transfer of this requirement to Section 8, the RI Life Safety Code , where it currently is cited.

Conclusion: The Board hereby ratifies and adopts Rhode Island Division of State Fire Marshal General Order  2015-1 entitled Uniform Testing Reports in accordance with RILSC  9.6.11.4 and RIFC  1.13.1(3).
