Providence, R.I. – Governor Lincoln D. Chafee today announced his appointment of Colin P. Kane, Principal of Peregrine Group LLC of Rumford, as Admiral of the Rhode Island Commodores.
“I am honored to appoint Colin Kane as Admiral of the Rhode Island Commodores,” Governor Chafee said. “I believe his proven leadership and dedication align well with the Commodores’ efforts to improve our state’s economy and the quality of life of all Rhode Islanders.”
The Rhode Island Commodores was established as a non-partisan, private-sector organization in 1968 under then-Governor John H. Chafee. Its members serve as ambassadors of goodwill and play a key role in enhancing the state’s economic development and quality of life. The Governor serves ex-officio as the group’s Commander-in-Chief. The organization is led by a Board of Governors, which is Chaired by the Admiral. The Executive Director of the state’s Economic Development Corporation serves ex-officio as its Vice Admiral.
The group’s membership consists of 260 of the state’s top business and civic leaders hailing from diverse sectors of the economy and from all parts of the state.
Donna Cupelo, Verizon’s Regional President for New England, has served as Admiral for the past eight years, and will remain on the Board after the gavel is passed at a March Board meeting. Mr. Kane will be officially commissioned by the Governor at a members’ meeting in April.
Colin Kane is Peregrine Group LLC's lead partner for project transactional activities, including structured workouts, payment settlements, deal origination, project planning, asset acquisition and sales, leasing, financial analysis, workout analysis, and debt/equity capitalization.
Prior to helping found Peregrine in 2001, Kane worked as a Development Manager for Gilbane Properties and as a naval officer serving as a Flag Lieutenant and division officer stationed aboard the guided missile destroyer USS KIDD. Kane has broad experience in real estate development, including successful projects in Rhode Island, North Carolina, California, Maine, Nevada, Vermont, Virginia, Maryland, and Florida over the past 12 years. Projects include mixed-use campuses, historic rehabilitations, multi-family housing, hospitality venues, planned residential communities, large-scale corporate and institutional build-to-suits (including medical facilities), and brownfield redevelopment.
Kane is a combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm, a graduate of Harvard Business School (MBA), Georgetown University (MA), and the US Naval Academy (BS, with distinction), and serves on the Executive Committee of the RI Builder's Association.
